LED Headlights are very popular and refer to the light-emitting diode and they produce a bright light. The HID Headlights are High-Intensity Discharge Lights also referred to as Xenon lights. Since the introduction of LED and HID lights, car owners and drivers now opt for headlights with more functionality, practicality, and incredible features. Yet, despite the love for these two sources of light for cars, they still have differences.

What are LED Headlights?

In most modern-day exotic cars, LED lights are the most popular. LED refers to light-emitting diode; they produce current by electro-luminescent, meaning that they generate light by the movement of electrons. 

LED car headlight convey their current via semiconductors. They are very bright but lack the fierce brilliance that characterizes other sources of light, including the HID lights.

LED vs HID: Which Is Better?

To know the better option between LED and HID car headlights, we’ll consider their differences relative to features, functionality, and practicality.

  • Heat Absorption

HID has an edge over their LED counterparts here. Although they do not heat themselves, LED lights to heat the proximally located wires. The reason for this is because the built-in cooling system is not as effective as expected.

  • Evolution and Advancement 

While HID headlight is the oldest and more mature in the industry, LEDs are more famous and technologically advanced. 

  • Color production

In terms of color production, HID headlights provide more color options than LED headlights. Many people still go for LED, however, because their light looks similar to sunlight and daytime lights.

  • Instant Light Output

LEDs can come on with full intensity when you turn them on but HID would usually delay for some say 6 seconds before coming on. During this ‘booting’ time the HID light would not be at its peak. LED and HID headlights are both great in light output, but because LED doesn’t lag or delay to achieve its full color and brightness, LED wins.

  • Extra Lights 

LEDs do not produce any other additional light except their usual sunlike light. On the other hand, HID produces infrared, which is advantageous to persons residing in snow prevalent regions. This is because infrared melts snow off the headlight’s casing.

  • Durability and Longevity 

Because LED kits last longer for about 1250 days, they are more expensive than HID kits, which last for about 104 days. LED headlights can serve you for a long time, and the time difference is just too much to compare it to HID or any other powered headlight.

Whichever of the lights you feel is better for you comes down to your personal preference and lifestyle. If you drive at night, you may want to have nothing to do with HID and halogen lights.

But if you are a day worker, you may not need bright blinding LEDs. All the light sources have their pros and cons. Get the one that suits you the most. And if your headlight oxidizes, there are better ways to clean it.

When compared directly to HID, LED headlights are a better option, thanks to the superior features they brag over their counterparts in the industry.
